Medway Talk: Time for Change – The Health and Cognitive Implications of Daylight Saving Time

22nd May | 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Large theatre group. A person talking at the front with people sitting in their seats looking towards them.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) has been a long-standing practice in many regions, requiring people to adjust their clocks twice a year, either losing or gaining one hour of sleep. While the primary goal of DST is to make better use of natural daylight and conserve energy, its broader implications on human health and cognition remain a subject of growing concern.

In this free research talk, open to anyone in the community, Senior Lecturer at the Medway School of Pharmacy Dr Aiste Steponenaite will discuss the multifaceted effects of DST beyond the clock adjustments, delving into potential health and cognitive risks associated with these semi-annual changes to answer a key question – how necessary is continuing DST in our modern society?

Medway Talks is a free lecture series from the Universities at Medway – University of Greenwich, University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church.
