Mental health v mental illness

The term mental health is used frequently in the media and has been raised by many famous people. But what does this actually mean? Why is it that some people keep mentally healthy but others become anxious or depressed – even when it seems there is no cause? What can we do to protect our mental health and how can common mental illnesses be treated? This lecture will explore the answers to these questions.

Aamer Sarfraz is a Consultant Psychiatrist working in Oxleas NHS Trust. His is an author, editor and teacher. Aamer has lectured around the world. His specialist area is patient safety and psychiatry. His academic work is based at Canterbury Christ Church University where he is Professor of Psychiatry. This lecture will focus on why some people struggle with their mental health and what we can do to stay mentally healthy.
