Welcome to a varied, stimulating and accessible range of talks presented by Medway Libraries.

Wed 20 Mar 2024 at 7.30pm –

Throughout the centuries the Royal Engineers and Chatham Dockyard dictated the demographics of the Medway Towns – masculine, diverse and overwhelmingly working class. Only the city of Rochester with its perceived gentility was deemed suitable to play home to any notables. This time, however, Irina Fridman concentrates on Chatham and Gillingham’s royal connections by examining. the life of Sarah Forbes Bonetta – a princess, a ward and goddaughter of Queen Victoria.

Irina Fridman is an author and a local historian with a special interest is the social history of the Medway Towns.
