Over the last year Creative Medway have supported a working group of creative practitioners and organisations from across the county to develop a new creative sector sustainability pledge. The group was formed during an event co-hosted by Creative Medway and Creative Kent last year to look at how the sector could become more environmentally sustainable.
The pledge has been developed to foster a collective, collaborative county-wide approach across the creative sector including everyone from our largescale cultural buildings to freelancers, from those just starting on their environmental sustainability journey as well as those already established.
Anyone who is part of Medway or Kent’s creative community can sign up to the Kent and Medway Creative Sector Environmental Sustainability Pledge. The pledge is a way to make your environmental commitments public, it provides accountability and demonstrates the collective impact of our actions.
Creative Medway and Creative Kent will publish your commitments and email you every 18 months to give you the chance to update on them. Find out more, read other’s commitments and sign up here.
Climate change is one of the most urgent issues facing us today. Our actions big and small have a profound impact on people and communities both locally and globally. As a sector we recognise our unique position to start public conversations and influence public behaviour.
The Kent and Medway creative community are committed to taking action to address the environmental impact of our activities across our travel and transport, energy and power, waste and recycling, procurement and supply chains.
We commit to being ambitious in the action we take, holding one another to account as critical friends and improving our knowledge, skills and policies. We commit to sharing where we have not succeeded as well as where we have for others to learn from.

To support members of Medway’s creative community to develop tangible, practical, impactful commitments, we are working with Sail to offer affordable and free creative-sector specific carbon literacy training for self employed people and small organisations (with up to ten staff).
We are also working with Creative Estuary who are running an informal discussion and support group to bring together people drafting or leading strategies and policies on behalf of creative organisations and publishing resources.
Visit our webpage to explore resources, links, tools and guidance to help you develop your own commitments, and to book your place on our carbon literacy training or strategy leads group.
