What is Medway Change Makers?

This is a brand new programme connecting people with events based volunteering opportunities in their community. With this programme, we want to break down the barriers that prevent people from volunteering, and to diversify what it means to be a volunteer in Medway.

Volunteers will be supporting arts and cultural organisations and events in a variety of roles. Medway Change Makers is a partnership project from Ideas Test, Creative Medway, Medway Place Board and Medway Voluntary Action, kindly funded by Spirit of 2012.

What is events based volunteering?

We know that some regular or long term volunteering schedules don’t work for a lot of people, and that they can be a barrier to getting involved. This programme instead helps you to find events based opportunities, where you volunteer for a fixed, short term period, rather than on a regular ongoing basis. What would I be doing?

That’s up to you!

We are working with a wide range of host organisations across Medway’s arts and cultural sector to bring you volunteer opportunities, and what’s available will depend on the activities taking place in Medway at that time. There is no minimum hours commitment to the programme, and no pressure to take part in activities that don’t suit your interests or schedule. You have complete control over what your engagement looks like, by selecting which events based opportunities you take part in from specific role descriptions.

Volunteering as a Medway Change Makers might look like:

Stewarding at a large outdoor festival or concert
Taking photographs or creating social media content
Walking in a carnival parade
Writing articles from home

What do I get?

Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community, but it also has a huge number of personal benefits for volunteers themselves. Whether you’re hoping to improve your employability when looking for a new job, wanting to meet new people and make friends, or get access to exciting events and activities in your community, volunteering could make a difference in your life. Through the programme, you will also have access to role specific and general training, as well as an exciting perks programme for discounts at local businesses.
